Job Summary
Canopy is looking to hire a Junior Underwriter for its Professional Liability team. The Junior Underwriter will provide daily support to the Underwriters at Canopy’s Voorhees, New Jersey office, although partial remote working will also be available. The hire will gain first hand experience of the role of an underwriter, with the plan for them to move into an associate underwriter position further down the line.
Job Description
Joining a fast-growing MGA, this position provides support to the Professional Liability team in underwriting and managing a book of business, assisting with processing new and renewal submissions, and training as a Professional Liability Underwriter. Responsibilities include reviewing applications, rating accounts into the underwriting system, processing binders and endorsements, servicing policies, reviewing historical loss information, and communicating with producers and carrier partners.
Responsibilities:

Assist in the general underwriting process by collecting information and data from brokers.

Work with underwriters and assist in underwriting, rating, pricing, and quoting of risks.

Complete formal rating and documentation of bound business.

Maintain renewal lists and follow up with producers for renewal information.

Develop strong working relationships with producer offices.

New, renewal, and endorsement processing including rating, binding, and policy issuance.
Qualifications and Criteria:

Bachelor’s Degree, with a degree in Insurance and/or Risk Management preferred.

1-2 years insurance experience or a prior internship preferred.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the ambition to quickly learn and develop.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, ability to meet established deadlines.

Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook).

Excellent attention to detail.

Team player and desire to grow and build relationships across the company.
